Dear Littleton Parents:

Please review the study skills tips listed below.  Arestudents writing down their assignments?  Do they have the materialsthey need to complete their work?  Do they have a set time in their dayto complete homework?

Remember to set a time and place for reinforcing studyskills.  Have a place at home where your children can study without anydistractions. Work together with your child, which will be a positiveway to support their academic successes!

Study Skills Tips for Parents:

Set a Schedule

1. Show an interest in your child's homework assignments and encourage a regular time to complete it. Ask about all subject areas and maintain a working schedule.

2. Teach your child how to be organized.
Be sure your child keeps a homework assignment book and ask to review. Check your child’s backpack each day.
To help your child organize homework, create ahomework checklist with the following items for each subject:
• I completed the assignment ____
• I checked the assignment to be sure it was correct___
• I had no homework in this subject tonight___

3. Eliminate as many distractions as possible during study time.
Make sure your child has a specific place to complete schoolwork that offers ample lighting and minimal noise.

4. Develop a strategy for reinforcing study skills.
Find a consistent plan that works for your family.

5. Try to relate the homework to your child's everyday life.
For instance, fractions and measurements can be learned as the familyprepares a favorite food. When you purchase items, follow a recipe, ordecorate your home, math principles are being used.
